Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia which can affect anybody. It is an airborne disease that is normally contracted by inhaling tiny droplets of Legionella contaminated water into the lungs. Up to 450 cases of Legionnaires’ disease are reported each year in the UK and 1 in 8 people will die from it! Other dangerous pathogens which may cause skin or gastrointestinal infections can also be found in hot tubs and spa pools.
Before you put the lid on your hot tubs and run for the hills let me reassure you that by following recommended procedures, Legionella and other pathogens can be eliminated from your hot tubs and water systems, ensuring hot tubs remain a great asset to your business.
Solway Water Management can help you put a first-rate management system in place. Following a Risk Assessment at your site you will receive a document highlighting all the required procedures that you are currently carrying out and other protocols that you can implement to become compliant with the current Health and Safety Guidance on Legionella and Hot Tubs, L8ACOP and HSG282.
We also provide hot tub training and are currently the first and only Scottish-based company that can deliver this BISHTA-accredited course. We have regular courses around Scotland and are also happy to provide on-site training if that is more convenient for you.
We currently visit 175 sites every month across Scotland to take water samples for testing. Following sampling we interpret the lab results and explain these in layman’s terms. In the event of problematic results, we will advise safe corrective actions which will ensure you conform with current guidelines.
All our clients are provided with our online management system which is used in conjunction with an app that can be downloaded onto your smartphone or iPad to record daily chemical checks.
We also give advice on maintaining private water supplies and can provide water tank deep cleaning/disinfection, drinking water and farm assurance water sampling.
