I grew up in rural Aberdeenshire, but not on a farm. I trained and worked as a land agent, initially in Moray and then in the central belt, where my “day job” is still based, although I mainly work from home.
After my father-in-law died in 2013, my husband Hugh and I took on the management of his family farm (Westfield Farms) just outside Elgin, initially running this remotely – we are both all too familiar with the A9! We now have three small children, who keep us very well entertained but also pretty time constrained.
Having spent ten years dreaming up Agritourism ideas from the sofa in Perthshire, we are now slowly starting to put these into practice. Since moving back to the farm in 2023, we have continued operating our small caravan site, set up an honesty shop, started a meat box enterprise, established three holiday lets, and working on one more, and set up an equestrian livery. We are passionate about encouraging people to become more aware of what they’re eating and where their food comes from.
We love our children getting involved in the farm and are proud that they can tell their classmates where sausages come from, and how we grow our own lambs for the freezer. We encourage our guests to explore the farm, and buy our produce, and would love to grow this side of the business further.
