I was delighted to be selected as one of 27 Agritourism under 35 scholars in the 2023 program which started with two days of training in Edinburgh. On day one we focused on personal and agritourism sector development and on day two we met several Scottish Government representatives at the Scottish Parliament discussing the issues with Agritourism.

Following that we spent a further two days attending the Agritourism conference which discusses a variety of themes from succession, sustainability and had the chance to meet so many inspirational people within the industry.

My interest in agritourism stems from two sources. Firstly, I have grown up on a mixed farm in the Highlands; in 2018 we renovated an old flour mill into a holiday home. And secondly, I am currently studying agri-business at Harper Adams University this has brought me to Balcaskie estate on my placement year, my placement involves working closely alongside the Bowhouse team to help run on site events, such as market weekends and farm tours.

The Agritourism conference enabled me to gain a better understanding of the vast opportunities Agritourism has to offer from on farm cooking classes to hands on lambing experiences.

There is a lot to be learned from others within the industry and the supportive network at the conference has provided the opportunity to do so.  The support I have gained from Agritourism is invaluable and I hope to continue my journey within the industry throughout my career.
