Janet and husband Alistair are fourth generation sheep farmers at Mid Wellwood Farm, just outside Muirkirk in East Ayrshire. Mid Wellwood Bothy is a 2 bedroom converted barn with a woodburning hot tub. It was built with the help of a European grant as a further source of income for the farm and to keep Janet busy after taking early retirement from many years of working in a bank.
Mid Wellwood Bothy opened straight after the final lockdown and has been busier than imagined given that Muirkirk is not known as a tourist area. Janet loves meeting guests and hearing their stories and takes great pride in good reviews. Last year Mid Wellwood was an area finalist in the Thistle Award Self Catering category. Janet credits the Scottish Agritourism WhatsApp groups as a great source of information for the business, especially when starting out.
Janet and Alistair have three grown up daughters, all busy establishing their own careers off farm and the couple enjoys travelling, especially to the sun! In her spare time, Janet sings with a local Rock Choir at lots of charity events.
