Jo McNicol lives and works on Castleton Farm situated just outside the beautiful coastal town North Berwick with her husband Stuart and 2 children. The 430 acre enterprise includes arable farming, 2000 fruit trees, the newly introduced ‘Seek’ dog park, and with the help of Leader funding, a coffeehouse called Drift.
Opening its doors in June 2018, Drift, was built using upcycled shipping containers clad in wood. It has firmly become a known visitor destination for taking in the dramatic panoramic views across the Firth of Forth to Fife, including the Bass Rock. Drift serves home baking baked on the farm as part of the bakery, brunch and lunch offering. The ethos to provide and cook fresh, seasonal, Scottish produce has grown and Jo is passionate about linking the farm with Drift through providing more of its own grown produce and engaging with customers on daily farming life.
Jo and Stuart completed 3 years as East Monitor Farmers for the Scottish Enterprise Agritourism Monitor Farm Programme 2019 – 2021. Jo is former Destination Leader for the Lothians and served on the Scottish Agritourism Board from February 2024 to February 2026.
