Having grown up as a city girl in Glasgow, my interest in agriculture started through food. My curiosity about where our food comes from and who’s growing or raising it has led me to visit many farms, from Scotland to Germany to Mongolia. I’ve been impressed by the variety of innovations which farmers are coming up with to close the gap in understanding between urban and rural areas, and to keep their businesses and culture of farming alive.
Through my current work at the Soil Association, I am particularly interested in how small to medium size farms can use an agroecological approach to keep their farms resilient, and a key part of this is the role of the farm in the community.
This will be my first time at the Agritourism Conference, and I’m interested to hear about the diverse ways farmers are using agritourism as a way to connect with wider society, bring in business, build strong farmer networks and share their stories.
