Session 9 – Putting Meat on to Agritourism Menus

In no particular order, Louise Urquhart is a farmers daughter, wife, farmer, mum to two amazing girls aged 9 and 7, small business owner, retailer and someone who’s not afraid to get the sleeves rolled up and get stuff done!

On leaving school, Louise studied Agriculture and Business Management at Aberdeen University. Graduating with BSc (Hons), she returned home to the family farm to farm with her grandfather, father and brother.

In 2013 a nearby tenancy came up and Louise went into partnership with her husband Ahren, farming beef, lamb and pork in Banchory. They are now both back farming at family farms and together finishing around 130 pigs a year, 80 to a 100 lambs and just over 900 pasture raised free range chickens for their own butchery.

Louise has always had a strong interest in food as well as farming and Louise’s Farm Kitchen was established in 2016, bringing together both of these passions.  Louise and Ahren sell their own meat direct from the farm with the slogan, “bringing naturally good food from our farm gate to your dinner plate”.
