I have been brought up on a farm and love working with my Dad on the farm, we farm 250 sheep and 50 cows on the isle of North Uist in the western isles.

Clachan Sands campsite has been operating with an Honesty Box since 2018 at £10 a night. In return an open space, fresh water and a waste bin. It includes a beautiful view over-looking Clachan sands beach and the Isle of Berneray and onwards to Harris. We have a great machair area which is right beside the beach, on the working family farm. It’s one of the most visited beaches on the island by locals and tourists.

My brother Andrew and I are wanting to stay on the island and want to expand the campsite and welcome people to the Outer Hebrides particularly our camping area. We are going to provide 25 pitches along with toilet/shower facilities.

In addition to this there will be the option to have camping pitches with electric hook up suitable for Motorhomes, Towing Caravans.  The grass pitches will remain available for Tents and those wishing to ‘Wild’ Camp.

We have applied for planning application; we will know at the end of November this year whether it will be approved.

I’m hoping this programme will help and develop my connections with other people doing the same project and improve my knowledge in building my own business.
